My Story

When I felt truly hopeless, I was reminded why I was here and the reason behind everything I do. You have a reason to heal and move forward when you have a purpose.

In 2012, my husband and I decided to move our family back to Pennsylvania after eight years of living life in the Marine Corps. We moved back to Lancaster County, where we were both born and raised to spend more time with our families. After being away for so long, we were able to be together and raise our children close to our families.

Things took a sudden turn in 2014 when my dad passed away unexpectedly. At the time, we had four kids, Haylie, Mikey, Aubrey, and Emmah. There were so many things to be grateful for, but the heartache was unbearable.

WE VALUE YOU

I was struggling to sleep and eat. It was gut-wrenching to lose someone who had been there for me through every phase of my life. When my best friend, Rachel, heard the news, she immediately flew in to help me pick up the pieces.

Arranging the funeral was such a surreal experience. We had Emmah, an infant at the time, with us at one of our appointments, and she started to fuss. Rachel offered to take her, but I insisted that I could handle it. Taking care of my daughter was one of the few things I had control of; it felt like the rest of my world had flipped upside down.

After a long day, we returned home feeling emotionally exhausted. Then, Rachel said something that I'll never forget. "This is why you had Emmah," she said. Emmah and the rest of my beautiful children are the reason I’ll get through this.

Rachel was right. My children are the foundation of my purpose and have helped me through the darkest days of my life. She reminded me that I needed to fulfill the same role my father did for me. It didn't matter what he was going through; he was always there for me. I had to be there for all my kids – recognizing this helped me regain control of my life and take care of myself again.
